Biography

Ian has been writing music in many forms since he was 16 years old.  He has worked solo for most of those years, but was always looking for the right female vocalist to blend with his dreamy music.

In the summer of 2003, while looking through musician classified ads, he came upon an ad from a vocalist, "the voice of an angel," read the ad.  Nessa was looking for a musician to work with.

Within a couple weeks they met and recorded their first song, "Ghost of Beethoven," on August 28, 2003.  The song was recorded acapella with some ambient elements mixed in.  A few days later, Ian wrote what would become one of their most popular, and their first proper song, "Shine on."  It's title was derived from the trickling sound heard in the song, which sounds like something from the Pink Floyd epic "Shine on you crazy diamond."

By March 2004, they had recorded 15 songs and were ready to make their first CD.  After 6 exhaustive months of mastering, the CD was released in October, 2004.  To our delight, the album has received excellent reviews from all over the world.

While both Nessa and Ian work as producers and lyricists, Ian composes the music and Nessa is the vocalist.

Nessa is a Houston native that escaped to the countryside for a few years, only to return happier, with an appreciation for samba, folk and lounge music.  "Nothing is more beautiful than a Sunday afternoon, windows open, and a bossa nova record spinning on the table," she says.

Nessa believes that music is the only language that is universal and has written essays about the power of music, focusing on the nature of music to overcome Idea and to argue that there is a part of the mind that is shared and overlapped.  "I am not alone when I sing, for the music is such that it dives deeper into the mind than any painting, poem or novel.  Singing is to be completely naked; naked of flesh, bones and mind."

Her influences are Beethoven, Bjork (Bjork being an excellent role model in solo female electronica, ambient and experimental music) and torch songs of such jazz mistresses as Dinah Washington and Billie Holiday.  She also loves international music, such as Najma from India, Bregovic with his Balkan influence, and also enjoys the sugary pop music of Korea and Japan.  She loves Faye Wong from China too.
